Unique places to stay in Morocco

Looking for the most unique places to stay in Morocco? Whether you dream of sleeping under the stars in the Sahara, relaxing in a beautifully restored riad in Marrakech, or soaking in the blue magic of Chefchaouen, Morocco is full of unforgettable stays that feel straight out of a dream. Living in Madrid, I’m lucky to be just a short and affordable flight away—often under €50! As someone who’s passionate about design, architecture, and spaces with soul, I come to Morocco often. It’s a country that never stops inspiring me.

After exploring Morocco from north to south, I’ve gathered my absolute favorite hotels and places that combine thoughtful design, authentic charm, and a deep connection to their surroundings. These are not just places to sleep—they’re places that make the journey. Check out the most unique places to stay in Morocco, city by city:

Essaouira

Essaouira’s coastal charm makes it a favorite of mine. I was there last summer, and contrary to what many people think, it wasn’t hot at all—thanks to the cool breeze from the ocean and the constant wind that keeps the temperature comfortable. The city is filled with breezy riads, whitewashed walls, and boho-chic boutique stays that are flooded with natural light. I’ve stayed in converted fishermen’s houses, now beautiful guesthouses, just steps from the beach and the vibrant medina.

If you love sea views, fresh seafood, and a laid-back artistic vibe, Essaouira is your perfect escape. It's an ideal destination for both families and couples seeking a peaceful retreat after the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. In this serene haven, you'll discover some of the best riads in Essaouira, where authentic charm meets thoughtful design and warm hospitality. Whether you’re enjoying the relaxed atmosphere or exploring the city’s winding streets, it’s a place that stays with you long after you leave.

Marrakech

Marrakech has always been a special place for me. I’ve visited several times, both with family and friends, and even just for weekend getaways. It’s one of those destinations that never gets old, always offering something new to discover. The desert, in particular, has a unique kind of magic—whether you’re riding camels at sunset or just sitting in awe of the vast, golden sands stretching out before you.

What I love most is how Marrakech offers a perfect escape, especially when it’s chilly in Madrid. The warm, sunny weather feels like a refreshing contrast, making it the ideal getaway when you’re craving sunshine. The vibrant souks, the stunning palaces, and the lively atmosphere of Jemaa el-Fnaa never fail to captivate me. It’s a city that’s full of life and energy, yet so easy to unwind in with such beautiful places to stay.

Tangier

Tangier holds a special place in my heart—not just for its unique blend of cultures and stunning coastal views, but also for a more personal reason. My cousin Rocío, founder of REA Arquitectura, designed and built one of the most luxurious hotels in the city, the Fairmont Tazi Palace, which I proudly feature on my site. Seeing her vision come to life in such an iconic location makes every visit feel extra meaningful.

The city itself is a fascinating mix of old and new, where the charm of the medina meets elegant cafés, art galleries, and sweeping views of the Strait of Gibraltar. There’s a creative energy in Tangier that’s hard to describe, but easy to feel—perfect for travelers who appreciate both beauty and depth.
