Best Places to Stay for 1 Day in Doha, Qatar

How to get to Doha, Qatar?

Getting to Doha is easy, thanks to its well-connected international airport and excellent flight options. Here’s what you need to know:

Flying to Doha

The main gateway to Doha is Hamad International Airport (DOH), one of the world’s best and most efficient airports.

  • Qatar Airways: As the national carrier, Qatar Airways offers direct flights to Doha from major cities across Europe, Asia, North America, and beyond. We have only flown Economy on this airline and it is one of our favorite Economy experiences when flying. We actually offer a 5% direct discount in Qatar Airways to our readers which you can use in all flights anytime of the year! We really fly with Qatar a lot and it is one of our favorite companies. It is also part of the One World program so we get Avios, like with Iberia.

  • Other Airlines: Many international airlines, including Iberia, Emirates, KLM or British Airways, also operate flights to Doha. Because we usually travel from Spain, we always use Iberia when available. We have flown Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class in this airline and can recommend it. When available, I recommend choosing Premium Economy for a more comfortable experience.

Visa Requirements

  • Visa-free entry: Over 90 nationalities can enter Qatar visa-free for stays ranging from 30 to 90 days.

  • Transit visas: If you’re stopping over for more than 5 hours, you can apply for a free transit visa (valid for up to 96 hours).

Getting from the Airport to the City

  • Metro: The Doha Metro’s Red Line connects the airport to the city center in about 15 minutes.

  • Taxis & Ubers: Readily available outside the terminal, with a ride to central Doha costing around $10-$15.

  • Car Rentals: Available at the airport if you prefer to explore on your own.

Where to Store Luggage in Doha During a Long Stopover?

If you’re facing a long layover in Doha and need to store your luggage because you are not sleeping there, there are luggage storage services available in the city, even though the airport itself doesn't offer this service (which is weird). We recently used one of these services, and although it took a little time to get to, it was definitely worth it for the freedom to explore Doha without carrying our bags. It has really good reviews on Google Maps too. Make sure to plan extra time for the transfer to the storage location, as it can take some effort to reach by taxi or public transport. However, it’s a convenient option for anyone with a long stopover who wants to make the most of their time in the city.

Name of the Luggage Storage Store: Bounce Luggage Storage

Directions from the airport:

  1. Take the Red Line of the Doha Metro towards Lusail.

  2. Ride for 5 stops until you reach Msheireb station.

  3. Change to the Yellow Line towards Al Aziziyah.

  4. Ride until Bin Mahmoud station.

  5. Exit via Ibn Mahmoud St (West).

  6. Walk for about 10 minutes down this street, then turn left onto Al Jazeera St.

  7. You will find the store on your left hand side. Keep in mind the store doesn't have a Bounce Luggage Storage name, so you might think you can't find it. It is a shipping store, parcel service, or courier service store.

Price: 5 euros per bag (March 2025 price and our bags were small)

𑁍 BEST THINGS TO DO IN DOHA:

Activities we recommend in Doha:

Best Cheap Restaurants in Doha

If you're looking for delicious and affordable restaurants in Doha during your 1 day in Doha, you have to check out Shujaa Restaurant. It’s super cool and traditional, with a vibe that’s always buzzing—this place is packed with locals, which is always a good sign. The food is flavorful, and the atmosphere is lively, making it a must-try spot for an authentic experience.

Afterwards, head over to Al Hallab for some traditional pastries. Trust me, you can’t leave without trying their pastry with pistachio—it's absolutely divine. The sweetness, the crunch, and that perfect pistachio flavor make it a treat you’ll remember! It’s the perfect way to end your food adventure in Doha.

Best Time of year to Visit Doha, Qatar

The best time to visit Doha is from November to March, when the weather is pleasantly mild, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F)—perfect for exploring the city, enjoying outdoor activities, and relaxing at beach hotels in Doha. And at nights it can get chilly. This period is also when major cultural events, like the Qatar International Food Festival and Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition, take place. Summers (May to September) can be extremely hot, with temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F), making it less ideal unless you plan to stay in air-conditioned Doha city center hotels or enjoy luxury indoor experiences. If you're stopping over, the city's transit hotels at Doha Airport ensure a comfortable stay regardless of the season. Every time we have stayed 1 day in Doha we have done it between November and the end of March so I would recommend this time!

Asia is an incredible continent to explore, offering an incredible mix of cultures, landscapes, and experiences. From the beautiful rice terraces of Indonesia, where serene jungle retreats and boutique stays create a peaceful escape, to the vibrant streets of Bangkok, where golden temples and bustling night markets await, every destination has something unique to offer. We are traveling to Bali very soon! If you’re instead drawn to island adventures, the Maldives promises overwater villas and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a luxury trip. Meanwhile, India’s Rajasthan region is a dream for history lovers, with opulent palaces and desert forts. We loved the country and the food! Singapore blends modern marvels with lush green spaces, making it an exciting city to explore. Also visiting very soon! Looking for the perfect itinerary? Check out our guides for handpicked experiences and stunning hotels that elevate your trip and make it unique.

I love exploring places that feel a bit off the typical places where everyone goes, and destinations like Georgia, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka have completely captivated me. Walking through Tbilisi’s charming old streets or hiking in the Caucasus mountains feels like stepping into a hidden world of history and nature. In Saudi Arabia, the contrast between the ancient rock formations of AlUla and the futuristic energy of Riyadh is fascinating, while the untouched beaches along the Red Sea are a surprise most people don’t expect. And then there’s Sri Lanka, a country bursting with color—from the tea plantations of Ella to the wild safaris of Yala, where spotting elephants never gets old. These places aren’t just travel destinations; they’re experiences that stay with you long after you’ve left.
