Best Time of year to Visit Madrid and its surroundings

The best time to visit Madrid and its surroundings is spring (April to June) and autumn (September to early November). During these seasons, the weather is pleasant, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds compared to the hot summer months. I grew up in Madrid and I live here most part of the year, so I have experienced all seasons. I will detail each season below, and any month is good for traveling, but in my opinion, in August it is too hot here (although everyone is gone so you have the city nearly for yourself) and in December Madrid is too crowded! So for me, any other months apart from those would be a better option.

  • Spring (April-June): The countryside is green, flowers are blooming, and temperatures range between 15-25°C (59-77°F). It's perfect for exploring Madrid, the surrounding charming towns, unique hotels, and scenic landscapes.

  • Autumn (September-November): The heat of summer fades, making it ideal for weekend trips from Madrid. Vineyards in Ribera del Duero and La Mancha are in harvest season, and the golden hues of Extremadura’s dehesa and Sierra de Gredos create stunning scenery.

  • Winter (December-February): While Madrid can be chilly, with temperatures around 5-12°C (41-54°F), it’s a great time for cozy stays in historic paradores, spa hotels, and countryside retreats. Some areas, like the Sierra de Guadarrama, even get snow most years.

  • Summer (July-August): It gets very hot, often exceeding 35°C (95°F), but it’s still a great time for poolside stays in rural hotels or visiting higher-altitude destinations like Gredos or Segovia. Many locals escape Madrid during this time, making weekends feel quieter in the city.

For specific trips, like the lavender fields of Brihuega, late June to early July is the best time to visit!
