By Train: The AVE high-speed train from Madrid's Atocha Station reaches Seville's Santa Justa Station in approximately 2.5 hours. It's a comfortable and scenic journey.
By Bus: Several bus companies operate routes from major Spanish cities to Seville, though travel times are longer compared to trains.
By Car: Driving from Madrid to Seville takes around 5-6 hours via the A-5 and A-66 highways. The roads are well-maintained, and the journey offers picturesque views of the Spanish countryside.

Morning: Start with Seville’s most important sights
Breakfast at a Traditional Café
Start your 1 day in Seville with a classic Andalusian breakfast at La Cacharrería or Bar El Comercio. Here, you’ll find the famous tostada con jamón y tomate (crusty bread with crushed tomato and Iberian ham) and churros with chocolate. It’s the perfect way to fuel up before a busy day. :)
The Royal Alcázar of Seville
Make your way to the Royal Alcázar, one of Spain’s most breathtaking palaces. Arriving early (around 9:00 AM) is key to avoiding long lines. This UNESCO-listed palace is a masterpiece of Moorish and Mudejar architecture, with stunning courtyards, intricate tilework, and lush gardens. Tip: If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, you might recognize parts of the Alcázar as the setting for Dorne!
Seville Cathedral & La Giralda
From the Alcázar, walk over to Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Inside, you’ll find Christopher Columbus’ tomb and stunning altarpieces. Climb La Giralda, the bell tower, for spectacular city views. The ramp-style ascent (instead of stairs) makes it an easier climb than you’d expect!
Explore the Barrio Santa Cruz
This is Seville’s old Jewish Quarter, a maze of charming alleys, whitewashed buildings, and hidden plazas. Wander through Plaza Doña Elvira and Callejón del Agua, and soak in the history and romance of this area.

𑁍 Local Tip: Start your day early, especially if you’re visiting in summer—Seville gets HOT! The Real Alcázar opens at 9:30 AM, and getting there first thing means you’ll avoid the biggest crowds and enjoy the gardens in the cool morning air.
Midday: Tapas & Unique Experiences
Lunch at Bodeguita Antonio Romero
For an authentic Andalusian lunch, stop by Bodeguita Antonio Romero (my all-time favorite tapas bar in Seville) and try a pringá montadito—a small sandwich stuffed with slow-cooked meats. Pair it with a local manzanilla sherry or an Estrella Galicia beer. But really anything you ask for is yummy!
Metropol Parasol (Las Setas de Sevilla)
After lunch, head to Metropol Parasol, also known as Las Setas (The Mushrooms). This modern wooden structure contrasts sharply with Seville’s historic center. Take the elevator to the top for fantastic views of the city and a unique perspective on its skyline.
Relax with a Hammam Experience
If you need a little break, consider visiting Aire Ancient Baths. This Arab-style bathhouse is a hidden oasis where you can soak in thermal pools and enjoy a massage in a candlelit setting. I have never done this in Seville but some friends from Seville told me about it and I would recommend the experience if you have the time!
𑁍 Local Tip: When ordering tapas at a bar, don’t be surprised to see napkins and toothpicks on the floor—it’s actually a good sign! In traditional Seville bars, a messy floor means the food is great, and locals are loving it.
Afternoon: Hidden Gems & Local Culture
Plaza de España & Maria Luisa Park
Next, take a scenic walk to Plaza de España, one of Seville’s most famous landmarks. The grand semi-circular plaza, with its tiled alcoves representing different Spanish provinces, is absolutely stunning. Rent a rowboat on the canal or simply soak in the lively atmosphere.
Wander through Maria Luisa Park, a beautiful green space filled with fountains, gardens, and exotic trees. If you’re a history lover, you might enjoy a visit to the nearby Archaeological Museum of Seville.
Discover Triana: Seville’s Authentic Side
Cross the Puente de Isabel II (Triana Bridge) into the Triana neighborhood, famous for its flamenco heritage and ceramic workshops. Visit Cerámica Santa Ana to see traditional hand-painted tiles or simply explore the local streets.

Flamenco at Tablao El Arenal
No 1 day in Seville is complete without experiencing flamenco. Tablao El Arenal offers one of the best flamenco shows in the city, with passionate dancers, soulful singing, and mesmerizing guitar music. Of course as a Spaniard, I get chills watching a live flamenco performance every time!
Late-Night Drinks & Music at Casa Anselma
If you still have energy, head to Casa Anselma in Triana for an unforgettable night of spontaneous flamenco performances and local Sevillano charm. The atmosphere is electric, and you never know when a group of locals might break into song.

𑁍 Local Tip: In Spain, dinner is never rushed. Locals enjoy long, leisurely meals, often starting as late as 9 or 10 PM. If you want to blend in, order a bottle of wine, savor your meal slowly, and soak in the lively atmosphere. And if you're heading to Casa Anselma, get there early—this legendary spot fills up fast, and once it’s full, they won’t let anyone else in!
